Lithuania has been recognized as the safest country in Europe in terms of the frequency of criminal activities. The sociologist assessed the main factors that led to this and that there are signs that we are moving towards a welfare state.
The State Data Agency reported that, according to the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), in 2023, only 2,7% of residents in Lithuania reported a crime in their neighborhood. This is one of the lowest rates in the entire European Union. Lithuania ranks among the leaders together with Croatia (1,4%) and Poland (2,8%).
Sociologist Gediminas Merkys said that this was influenced by the social structure of the population, as well as the fact that there are many older people living in our country.
We want to ask you, do you agree that Lithuania is the safest country in Europe?
