The government should not contribute to National Stadium of the project in Vilnius, says Seimas Speaker Saulius Skvernelis. According to him, the project is shrouded in stories of embezzlement and waste of funds, so, the former prime minister emphasizes, the decades-long initiative to build a National Stadium in the capital has been completely discredited.
BNS wrote that the ruling "Ausrians", including party leader Remigijus Žemaitaitis, registered a draft resolution of the Seimas proposing to suspend the construction of the National Stadium until a detailed economic, legal, and financial assessment of the project is conducted.
They base their proposal on the changed geopolitical situation, which forces Lithuania to "urgently review state budget priorities and direct additional funds to defense, border protection, military preparedness, and strengthening civil defense."
Vilnius city municipalities Last August, the council approved changes to the complex's concession agreement - after changing the risk sharing, the project will cost the municipality and the state 155,1 million euros.
The project is to be taken over by a real estate (RT) development company "Males". Its owner Arvydas Avulis has said that the shares of the stadium concessionaire company "Vilniaus mūžifunksis kompleksas" (Venetus Capital), the main shareholder, from "BaltCap" would be redeemed only when the issue of the Public Procurement Service's conclusions is resolved and the amendments to the project contract are approved by the European Commission.
The multifunctional complex with the national football stadium includes 15 facilities – an 18-seat stadium, an arena, a conference center, a museum, a kindergarten, and more.
