in Vilnius in autumn of the station modernization of the territory, called the project "Vilnius connect", Lithuanian specialists are most interested in the workshop so far, but, according to the Lithuanian Union of Architects, requests from foreign experts are also received.
In mid-August, the state-run "Lithuanian railways" and the Lithuanian Union of Architects has published a call for architects, urban planners and experts in other fields, applications are expected until Monday.
"At the moment, the call for applications and nominations for participants has been published, there are more and more requests already this week, we understand that people are starting to prepare, are interested, ask, some offer. We are waiting for as many people as possible to react", the curator of the creative workshop, architect Inga Urbonaitė-Vadoklienė told BNS.
She did not specify how many applications were received, but said that there are requests from Italian and British specialists.
"I wouldn't like to name it, I didn't count, I don't know how many. Not a thousand, not a hundred, but it's summer time, that probably takes its toll, (...) now there are a lot of calls and letters to be verified, questionnaires are slowly starting to flow in," said I. Urbonaitė-Vadoklienė.
"There are more Lithuanians (interested - BNS), because the distribution is much greater in Lithuania, but also distributed abroad, we expect the interest of foreign specialists as well," she added.
During the creative workshop, teams of architects will propose different urban and architectural ideas. Their proposals will be evaluated by a commission consisting of architecture, urban planning, real estate specialists and community representatives.
According to I. Urbonaitė-Vadoklienė, this is not a competition, so there will be no winner, but it is expected that the general direction of how the territory could be redeveloped for the "Vilnius connect" project will be clarified.
"Everybody will be a winner, because the goal is to generate as many ideas as possible, to test them. We welcome both bad ideas to know what not to do and good ideas to make it clear in which direction the area should move. The creative workshop will be very intensive, three days of menial work from early morning to late night," said the curator of the project.
After the workshop, recommendations will be formed, ideas will be presented to the public and integrated into the detailed plan being prepared, architectural competitions will be announced.
The more than 20-hectare area between Geležinkelis and Pelesa streets and its accesses are planned to be transformed into a multifunctional business and transportation center. It is planned to connect Naujininkai district with Naujamiestis and Old Town.
The detailed plan for the modernization of the station should be prepared in the first half of 2020.
In the summer of 2018, Lietuvos geležinkeliai signed a memorandum of intent with the capital city municipality, according to which it is planned to modernize the territory of the Vilnius station within 5-10 years: connect the railway and bus lines the station, move the headquarters of Lietuvos geležinkėliau, as well as develop commercial facilities.
