The chief architect of Vilnius, Mindaugas Pakalnis, says that the Zaha Hadid Architects office knows Vilnius, has vast experience in designing such objects, and is already designing the Rail Baltica railway station in Tallinn.
"The project idea presented by them creates a unique, recognizable, new one that has an appropriate relationship with the context of the station image of the terminal, forms a high-quality system of public spaces and through it ensures important connections between Naujininkai, Naujamiestis and Old Town", said M. Pakalnis in the report.
"By the way. it creates opportunities for the conversion of the production zone of the railway complex and the surrounding areas, it combines functional and aesthetic solutions well. Of course, this is only an initial idea, but it will definitely be able to be developed, detailed and developed," he added.
The second place in the competition was taken by the work "314159" of the Finnish company "B&M Architects Ltd", the third - the project "19MM75" of the Polish "SBS Engineering Group", the fourth - the project "VGS159" of the Lithuanian "Archinova" and the Danish "PLH Arkitekter", and the fifth - ZSEBUA by Shenzhen Aube Architectural Engineering Design Co., China.
33 works were submitted for the railway station space ideas competition.
The final winner of the competition will be determined after the public procurement commission checks the qualifications and documents of the participants. The winner is scheduled to be announced in November.
It is planned to award 50 thousand to the first place winner of the competition. EUR, the second - 30 thousand. euros, the third - 20 thousand. euros, fourth and fifth places - 10 thousand each. euro bonuses.
The works of the participants of the competition were evaluated by an international commission of 11 members, which included Lithuanian and foreign architects, representatives of "Lietuvos geležinkelių" and Vilnius municipality.
The architectural competition for the "Vilnius connect" part of the project is organized by the consulting company "Civitta".
