Last year, renewed in Vilnius "Avia Solutions GroupThe arena received international recognition. The capital's largest event space has been awarded the BREEAM certificate for sustainable buildings, which is awarded only to buildings that meet extremely high sustainability standards.
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is the world's longest and most widely used building environmental assessment method, awarded to buildings that are designed, built and operated according to high sustainability standards.
Based on this assessment system, buildings deserving of BREEAM certification fall into one of five categories: Pass (30-45%), Good (45-55%), Very Good (55-70%), Excellent (70-85 percent) and Outstanding (85 percent or more).
Vilnius "Avia Solutions Group" arena received an excellent 74,6 percent. assessment and entered the "Excellent" category, which, according to the sustainability technology company Smart CRE, only about a tenth of all BREEAM-certified buildings in the world can boast.
"We are very happy and proud of this achievement, as we consider sustainability an important part of our business vision. We are the oldest arena in Lithuania and one of the oldest buildings in our country that has received a high rating from the BREEAM certificate, so this is not only a huge appreciation of our work, but also an impetus to move forward", says the manager of the arena Andrius Žiauberis.
Currently, Lithuania can be proud of nearly 150 buildings that have received the international BREEAM certificate, most of which are 10 years old or younger. At that time, 74,6 percent Avia Solutions Group arena, which achieved the rating, became the object with the highest score in the top five BREEAM-certified buildings in the country.
The capital's arena, which opened its doors in 2004, was the first universal event space in Lithuania and has remained the only private arena in the country to this day. Welcoming its 20th year, the arena invested almost 11 million. euros for renewal.
"When renovating the arena, we paid a lot of attention to sustainability, so we made many different improvements - we replaced 2000 lights in the building with LEDs, updated most of the equipment in the arena's bars, improved the waste sorting system, installed water and electricity saving systems, and created a car sharing system for employees," - reveals Andžej Karžanovič, manager of the arena's engineering projects.
During the project, the greatest attention was paid to the improvement of acoustics, lighting, and the experience of visitors, and in order to achieve greater sustainability of the building, the focus was on both saving energy resources and improving the environment of the arena's employees.
