Architectural project competition ideas for Duke Gediminas secondary school, Šeškina and Vyturis primary schools
Duke Gediminas high school (Miglos st. 1A) the architecture of the building is created taking into account the context of the forest and natural lighting. The aim is to create a central space - the axis of the school, connecting outdoor spaces for non-formal education. The transparent hall seems to connect with the adjacent outdoor spaces into a single social space of the school. As if connecting between different levels, the amphitheater designed in the cave is extended and integrated into the formed relief outside the building. Terraces are being designed in the eastern yard, around protected trees.
Duke Gediminas Pro-Gymnasium (Blindźi St. 3) the task of architecture is to plan the infrastructure of buildings as rationally as possible with the least invasion of the environment. The project envisages the reconstruction of the existing building and the construction of new extensions. After assessing the quality of the existing structures, the formation of an additional floor above the existing buildings is proposed. Existing and new buildings are expected to be of different heights, shapes, and materials in order to make the learning space modern, contemporary and playful.
Šeškinė (Šeškinė st. 15) primary school designed in such a way that the values, culture and learning philosophy of the educational institution are reflected in the learning spaces. According to this principle, the planning of the area, the architecture of the building and the interior work as a medium that responds to different ways of learning. All indoor and outdoor spaces of the school can be adapted for education, opportunities are created to study in classes, smaller groups and individually. It is aimed that the school spaces stimulate curiosity and positively introduce them to the learning process. Natural lighting plays an important role in choosing the location of indoor and outdoor activities. The project aims at the maximum assimilation of the existing buildings, preserving the structure of the existing housings. Much attention is paid to adapting the building to the community's purposes.
The idea of Vyturis (Taikos st. 189) primary school is to keep the three existing building bodies and expand them with four new extensions that would provide additional light to the classrooms. In old buildings, their interiors are highlighted, window niches display children's artwork and achievements, and the atrium becomes the main gathering and event space.
