For the fourth year in a row, VšĮ "Skaitmeninė statyba" together with the Lithuanian Builders' Association organized the competition "Lithuanian BIM projects", the winners of which were awarded on April 26, at the "Skaitmeninė statyba 2019. Vilnius" conference, during the largest construction exhibition "Resta". The competition is intended to select the best practices of Lithuanian companies using structural information modeling (BIM) technologies and methodology.
The organizers of the competition are happy that every year the number of companies using BIM is practically increasing, and specialists are getting better at mastering the BIM methodology. "Every year, when I analyze this competition, I am happy with what I see. BIM projects are improving, their maturity and the quality of solutions are becoming higher, and the presentation of information is more professional. This testifies to the progress and progress of the Lithuanian construction sector in the application of digital technologies. Companies are becoming more and more open to changes and innovations," says Dalius Gedvilas, president of the Lithuanian Association of Builders and chairman of the Lithuanian BIM Projects competition commission.
According to the rector of VGTU, prof. Dr. Alfonso Daniūnas, digital construction is becoming a standard in the construction market. "The implementation of BIM, which facilitates the exchange of information between the client, the architect, the engineer and the contractor, is becoming a daily routine in the field of construction. Digitization also helps to avoid construction errors, because construction deviations can be noticed in time and possible losses can be prevented by using digital modeling of the construction process. On the other hand, using these technologies, construction inspection can compare the project and its real implementation", says A. Daniūnas.
in 2016 19 projects participated in the competition, in 2017 - 20, 2018 – 26, and this year 25 applications were submitted for the competition. Among last year's winners: the construction project of the "Zali" shopping center in Vilnius (Baltisches Haus), Šilo's house Beautiful ("YIT Lithuania"), Citypassagen office premises in Sweden ("INHUS Engineering"), Giedraičiai transformer substation reconstruction ("Projektai ir Co"), pedestrian overpass on A14 road ("Kelprojektas"), warehouse in Kaunas ("Sweco Lietuva"). Over four years, as many as 90 BIM projects implemented by Lithuanian companies were submitted to the competition.
The BIM projects submitted to the competition made it possible to make sure that Lithuania has a lot of potential to catch up with the most advanced countries in the field of digitization of construction. "When it comes to BIM, Lithuania occupies a very good position. We're not the last to do this, but it's even better that we're not the first, so we can use what others already have. We can also perfectly see things that really work, and which are not needed at all - it is enough to look at what is used in practice, which is the subject of the most discussions", says Dainius Gudavičius, BIM manager of UAB "Sweco Lietuva" and head of the Digital Construction Committee of the Association of Lithuanian Design Companies. .
This year's evaluation committee consisted of representatives from VšĮ "Skaitmeninė statyba", Lithuanian Builders' Association, Vilnius Gediminas University of Technology, Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuanian Association of Design Companies, Lithuanian Construction Engineers' Union, Lithuanian Architects' Union, Association "Lithuanian roads", the Lithuanian Electricity Association, the Ministry of the Environment of the Republic of Lithuania, as well as one foreign expert.
in 2018 implemented projects were evaluated in terms of the use of BIM for design solutions, ensuring sustainability and "green" construction, innovative use of project information and standards and methodologies used in the projects.
In addition, two additional categories appeared in the competition this year - "BIM in student works" and "BIM city model".
