It is planned to establish a new space for community events, celebrations and daily leisure in the Pašilaičiai borough of Vilnius, Perkūnkiemi. The Vilnius Development Company, which oversees the project, is organizing an open architectural design competition for the installation of this public space.
Now part of the territory at Perkūnkiemio st. 22 is overgrown with natural vegetation, not suitable for visiting, recreation and almost unused. Another part of the territory is used as an informal one parking lot, so we are looking for creative and rational ways to bring this area to life.
The Vilnius Development Company had organized a creative workshop, during which they collected the ideas of the district community, summarized them and later presented them to the residents together with the draft of the project proposal task. According to the task of the published architectural competition, the architects will have to propose scenarios for the use of the 0,9 ha public space for different seasons, to provide for the possibility of using this public space for Perkūnkiemi community events and daily leisure. The square is expected to include a stage area or area, an amphitheater, and can accommodate up to 1000 people during events.
"By announcing the architectural competition, we aim to find the best solution so that the currently unadorned territory of the district becomes a representative, main space that forms the identity of Perkūnkiemis. We expect the architects to create a modern public space that is attractive and functional in all seasons. When formulating the competition task, we suggest that they also pay attention to energy-saving technologies and circular economy solutions, which not only extend the life cycle of architectural solutions, but also improve society's everyday life," said Laura Joffė, head of the Vilnius development company.
The territory will have to have attractions for people of various ages and interests, small architectural elements for various activities and a designated place for a work of art.
Architects must also ensure that Perkūnkiemios st. 22 connection of public space with the surrounding territories: provide pedestrian paths connecting with other public spaces and public objects of the quarter. In addition, the decisions of the architectural competition must assess the existing communication infrastructure adjacent to the planned territory - entrances to the surrounding territories, parking spaces, the planned Leičiau st. section solutions.
There are a few young trees in the area - lindens, maples, but bushes and self-grown small lindens dominate, which make up about 80-90 percent of the area. the greenery of this space. When planning a space, designers should give preference to plant species that improve the biodiversity of the area - trees, shrubs and perennials, and design lawns only in functionally appropriate areas. Plants must occupy at least 60% of the total. all territories.
