Mehiläinen, Finland's largest healthcare and social services provider, announced the acquisition of InMedica Group in January. The transaction was successfully completed after receiving official approval from the authorities and is an important step in expanding access to high-quality healthcare services throughout the Baltic region.
On March 5, Mehiläinen completed the acquisition of InMedica Group, the largest private medical service provider in Lithuania. The transaction was announced on January 2025, 9. Following this acquisition, InMedica Group officially joined Mehiläinen, opening up new opportunities for Lithuanian patients, medical professionals and the entire healthcare system. The integration will be carried out gradually to ensure a smooth transition for both staff and patients, while maintaining the highest quality standards and continuity of services.
New digital healthcare services for Lithuanian residents
Mehiläinen, a pioneer in digital healthcare, has over 2 million registered users of its healthcare mobile app in Finland, and its digital solutions are available in 11 different countries in both the private and public healthcare sectors. This experience will soon be applied to Lithuanian patients, aiming to improve the accessibility and convenience of healthcare services – a virtual clinic and mobile app will be launched in Lithuania at the end of May.
"With the introduction of a virtual clinic and a mobile app, top-quality healthcare services will become easier and faster to access throughout Lithuania. If a medical consultation is needed, patients will be able to contact their family doctors via a chat app that will be available from early morning to late evening, including weekends and public holidays - this will reduce waiting times and make it easy to get help from the comfort of their home," says Andreas Taalas, Business Line Director of Mehiläinen in the Baltics region.
The mobile app will also allow you to easily register for clinic visits electronically, consult with doctors virtually (by texting), receive referrals, and conveniently view your medical records, prescriptions, and test results.
Investments in improving healthcare in Lithuania
With more than 115 years of experience in healthcare, Mehiläinen comes to Lithuania with Scandinavian expertise and long-term investments in medical services and professional development, so this acquisition will benefit both patients and healthcare professionals.
"In June, we plan to open a new rehabilitation center in Vilnius, which will integrate comprehensive rehabilitation services and care after orthopedic surgeries - this will allow us to expand the range of rehabilitation services provided by InMedica Group and ensure a smooth patient path from surgery to recovery. In addition, the new magnetic resonance imaging diagnostic centers being opened in Mažeikiai and Marijampolė will improve the accessibility of advanced diagnostic services, expanding the offer of high-quality radiological examinations beyond the borders of major Lithuanian cities," says Kęstutis Broniukaitis, CEO of InMedica Group.
“Our priority is to improve access to high-quality healthcare services in Lithuania through digital innovation and expanding the provision of essential services to most regions, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care in any part of the country,” continues Andreas Taalas.
Leveraging Mehiläinen's expertise, InMedica Group will continue to expand and improve healthcare across Lithuania, ensuring that patients receive modern and high-quality services both digitally and in-person.
With this acquisition, Mehiläinen strengthens its position in the Baltic region and becomes the largest private healthcare provider in the Baltic States.
Previously, InMedica Group belonged to the leading private equity fund in the Baltic region. INVL Baltic Sea Growth Fund, private healthcare services and pharmaceutical manufacturing group AB City and a private company "Litgaia", which is controlled by InMedica founder and CEO Kęstutis Broniukaitis.
