This week, the State Food and Veterinary Service (hereinafter referred to as the State Food and Veterinary Service) received information from indignant consumers that consumers are offered to purchase "Food acetic acid 70%" products from one manufacturer in shopping malls, on food product shelves and in electronic commerce.
VMVT immediately responded to the received notification and carried out retail trade control and warned all large trade chains to remove 70% acetic acid products from food shelves and e-commerce food product sections. This requirement applies to all retail stores selling food to the final consumer.
Investigations are ongoing, and action measures will be taken against traders who have violated the requirements.
VMVT reminds that the Lithuanian hygiene standard HN 15:2021 contains the provision that only up to 9% of the product can be sold to end users. concentration of acetic acid (known as food additive E 260).
A higher percentage of acetic acid is extremely dangerous, it can burn internal organs and even get into the blood and cause internal bleeding.
VMVT warns consumers to be careful and cautious, and food sellers to comply with the requirements set for them.
