On Monday morning, a cargo aircraft fell near the airport in Vilnius. On Tuesday, it was reported that black boxes were found, which should help determine the cause of the plane crash. Few people know, but such black boxes are also produced in Vilnius, or to be more precise - Žirmūnai.
The manufacturer of black boxes in Vilnius is the company "Vilma". This company was previously known to residents as a tape recorder manufacturer, but today it is a company that manufactures a variety of switches and plug sockets.
By the way, the black boxes of this company helped reveal the cause of more than one plane crash, and in 2010, it was the black boxes produced by "Vilma" that were in the plane of the Polish president that crashed in Smolensk.
Previously, the head of the company told vz.lt that black boxes have been produced in this company since the Soviet era. This product has huge requirements and is the most technologically complex product in the company's entire range. The company still manufactures black boxes, but they are only sold for certain types of airplanes and helicopters around the world.
"In aviation, replacing one component is insanely expensive, so we have a guaranteed market." The product is not mass, but profitable. In the aviation sector, prices are calculated by weight - approximately USD 7.000 per kilogram," Emundas Pigaga, manager of Vilmas, told vz.lt in 2013.
By the way, on the company's page, in the section of their products, you can also find information about the black boxes they produce. Of course, the average consumer would not be able to buy them, and there is no need for that. An ordinary consumer usually buys the company's products for the home, because in various stores you will find switches and plug sockets manufactured by "Vilmas" that we buy for the home.
