Member of the Seimas Kęstutis Masiulis appealed to the Ministry of Environment, proposing to analyze the possibility of expanding the container deposit system by including the same or very similar product packages, which are now subject to exceptions.
"I suggest starting with the same or very similar packaging for oil, vinegar, juice, wine (in cans), jams, sauces, milk, kefir and other products. Analogous or very similar containers are used to package a large part of these and other food products, which are already included in the deposit system, but the packaging of these products is not included," says the MP.
He reminds that last year some members of the Seimas proposed to expand the container deposit system by additionally including vodka, wine and other bottles, but this was not supported by the manufacturers and the Government, citing the high cost and complexity.
"The deposit system has been very successful, residents return more than 90% of their debts. packaging, so additional packaging will only increase the involvement of the population, higher environmental goals will be achieved, and will not require particularly large investments from entrepreneurs, as only the acceptance of analog packaging would be expanded", says K. Masiulis.
According to him, Lithuanian residents return an average of over 500 million per year. packaging. As K. Masiulis observes, the Lithuanian bail system is considered to be extremely successful abroad, and its operation is presented as an example of good practice.
