JAV As the technology sector in Lithuania and Western Europe has been rocked by unrest and mass layoffs in recent years, hiring at Lithuanian startups has slowed, but the number of employees has still grown - over the year, the number of people working in the sector has increased by 5,5 percent to 8,4 thousand people, according to April data published by Verslo žinios.
The portal analyzed 50 Lithuanian and Lithuanian-based startups with at least 10 employees. At the beginning of this year, the analyzed startups in Lithuania had 8,2 thousand employees - 6 percent more than at the beginning of 2024, and in January last year, the analyzed Lithuanian startups had almost 7,8 thousand employees.
Unicorns have been the most active in increasing their number of employees – according to the latest data, “Vinted" employs 1,4 thousand employees (6,1 percent growth since April 2024). At the same time, the number of Tesonet portfolio companies grew even more - unicorn "Nord Security" hired 11,2 percent more people (the number of employees increased to 1,3 thousand), and "Cybercare" grew by 10,5 percent (to 410 employees).
Among the startups that saw a sharp increase in the number of employees was laser company Litilit, whose number of employees increased from 22 to 39 over the year.
Among the youngest startups, Ovoko, affiliated with Vinted, increased the number of employees over the year (65,3 percent to 124), Pulsetto, part of the Kilo Health group, increased from 6 to 22 employees, and cybersecurity startup CyberUpgrade grew from 1 to 10 employees.
