The raging elements in Brazil, logistical problems and energy for roasting make coffee more expensive - it has already become slightly more expensive in Lithuanian cafes and shops, and market experts predict that prices will soon jump significantly, and there may be a shortage of coffee due to a stagnant supply, the portal delfi.lt reports on Sunday.
Petras Čepkauskas, head of the food division of the price comparison portal "Pricer.lt", indicated that the increase in the price of coffee sold in retail chains has not yet been seen, but he emphasized that traders have reserves for shares, so there will be good offers until the New Year, maybe only a little less often, and next year , prices will rise by about 50 percent.
"According to our observations, prices in supermarkets are not yet growing strongly, but some chains are giving up the cheapest coffee, and may reduce stock quantities," he says.
Mr. Čepkauskas predicts that coffee prices in retail chains may rise by about 30 percent by the end of the year.
Darius Vėželis, the manager of the cafe chain "Vero Cafe" operating in Lithuania, notes that the price of raw coffee has risen by about 80% compared to last year, and a cup of coffee has become more expensive by 15 cents on average since September.
Since the beginning of this year, Arabica beans have jumped 40 percent on the stock market, and even 60 percent over the past year. Robusta from a low of 1,41 last April JAV dollar per kilogram, has now risen to 2,1 dollars.
