Trade networks have run out of workers. In the pre-holiday period, trade skyrocketed, and cash registers and warehouses lack hundreds of workers. Various positions: from logistics, production to cashiers. Economists explain that there was a delay in hiring retail chains because they were not sure whether consumption would recover.
As the winter holidays approach, you can't help but feel how the stores are getting involved. Accidental or planned, both occasions of shopping make merchants happy. Only sales would be even better if there was someone to work for.
"We are looking for about 200 additional employees in the fields of production, logistics, and trade. In trade, the demand is the greatest, especially in the big cities of the country", said Snieguolė Valiaugaitė, the representative of "Maxima".
"Christmas means a greater influx of buyers, more work for stores, so we want to facilitate the work balance and quality of existing employees and provide customers with a more pleasant shopping experience," said "Rimi Lithuania's representative Eglė Krasauskienė.
The Employment Service calculates 1,8 thousand in the trade sector. vacancies. Interestingly, this is the lowest number since the beginning of the year. At the same time last year, a sixth more workers were needed.
"It is the second largest sector, which generates 18 percent. from GDP and it is also one of the biggest employers in Lithuania. When traders create or cut jobs, the entire economy feels the consequences," emphasized Citadele economist Aleksandras Izgorodin.
New faces are brought into the trade only for temporary positions, for example, for a month - until January 2nd, when the festive bustle takes place. And a minority dares to offer a long-term job.
"We are looking for employees all year round due to the intensive expansion of the network and we currently have over 60 open positions for new stores Beautiful and in Vilnius", reported "Lidl Lithuania" representative Lina Skersytė.
"Companies usually delay the creation of jobs - first they make sure that consumption recovers, only then they create jobs sustainably," explained the economist.
People grab Christmas gifts during the discounts like burning eyes. Sales of jewelry, sports goods, and toys are recovering, but the opposite is true for food products. According to A. Izgorodin, such small food sales were only five years ago.
"It's going to be a bad Christmas. On the one hand, since the spring, when food consumption reached its minimum, it has recovered by 4%, but now that activity has stopped, food prices remain high enough," the Citadele economist shared the data.
In stores, there is a shortage of salespeople and consultants, cashiers, storekeepers and gas station operators with qualifications. Without education, they can offer to work as employees of the trading hall, cleaners, loaders.
It is true that employees from other departments have been dancing at the stalls for many years.
"More than 300 administrative employees know how to work at cash registers, help control the flow of customers, help in stores," the representative of Maximos testified.
Stores also call for mobile teams - a cashier on call.
"The employee goes to the store where help is needed at that time or where there is a smaller team," said the representative of Lidl Lithuania.
Finding extra hands won't be easy. Some retail chains offer 1250 euros before taxes.
