One of the largest waste management companies, "Ekonovus", is the first in the country to start working with gas garbage trucks, which not only pollute the air less, but will also operate much more quietly than their diesel "colleagues".
"The first gas garbage trucks will serve the residents of Vilnius and Klaipėda, later we intend to purchase more of them and include other cities as well - we plan to invest up to half a million euros in this transport.
We try not only to manage waste efficiently, but also to pollute the environment as little as possible - replacing diesel garbage trucks with gas ones allows for about 20% less waste. reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, gas-powered garbage trucks are much quieter than diesel ones, operating at least 50 percent faster. decibels quieter. For big cities, where silence becomes a luxury, this is a really positive change", says Romas Draskinis, director of "Ekonovus".
One of the hottest trends in today's truck market is gas-powered vehicles. Waste management is no exception: natural gas garbage trucks are establishing themselves here as well. More ecological waste management is encouraged by the growing attention to air pollution, the need for healthier, cleaner air. It is estimated that more than 80 percent people living in urban areas breathe air whose pollution exceeds the limits set by the World Health Organization. As a result, big cities are making changes, such as banning coal heating, charging cars to enter the city center or looking for greener vehicles.
"Big cities are a living and mobile organism, but it is natural that people here also want more ecological, nature-friendly solutions, also in waste management. Of course, a lot depends on the awareness of the people themselves - whether waste is sorted at home, whether it is taught to the little ones, and finally, whether it is used moderately and responsibly, without replacing new items with even newer ones right there. Ecological, sustainable waste disposal becomes the end of this chain: in order to really take care of the climate, nature, gas garbage trucks will gradually replace conventional diesel ones - we are already observing this trend in Western Europe", R. Draskinis believes.
According to the director of "Ekonovus", gas garbage trucks, although 20 percent more expensive than diesel cars, they also have more advantages for nature and city dwellers: compared to diesel cars, they reduce the amount of particulate matter by 84 percent, carbon monoxide by 37 percent, and nitrogen oxide by 70 percent. This in turn reduces pollution and allows cities to achieve a cleaner living environment.
