The successful experience of Lithuania's deposit system for disposable beverage packaging was shared at the international remote seminar dedicated to the regulation of the deposit for packaging system, which was organized yesterday by the organization "Reloop", which unites like-minded people with a common vision of circular economy. In addition to our country, representatives of Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sweden, Scotland, Portugal, Spain, France, Greece, Latvia, Poland, Romania and Turkey took part in it. This workshop followed up on the discussions of the conference held in Brussels last November on the best deposit systems for single-use beverage packaging.
According to the head of the Waste Policy Group of the Ministry of Environment, who presented the experience of Lithuania. specialist Neringa Paškauskaitė, the deposit system for disposable packaging created in the country has proven successful and is one of the successful examples of circular economy. For example, in 2019 in this system, according to the data of VšĮ "Užstato systemos administratorius", almost 24,5 thousand were collected and processed. tons of packaging waste - 90 percent. of all such packaging supplied to our market. During the development of the system's infrastructure, around 1,1 thousand so-called taromats - automatic packaging acceptance devices. The investment to create the security deposit system amounted to about 30 million. euros.
