The consolidated income of the operator of the Lithuanian gas transmission system "Amber Grid" in nine months of this year was 61,6 million. euros. This is 7 percent. less than in the same period last year, when the income reached 66,4 million. euros. Most of the income - 61,2 million. euros - earned by transporting natural gas.
"Gas transportation through main gas pipelines in the direction of Latvia has gained a lot of momentum this year, as suppliers aim to replenish stocks in the Inčukalnis gas storage facility. The utilization of our infrastructure to ensure the energy security of the region is also shown by the results of nine months. Consistent long-term development of the network and connection to important European markets and much-needed infrastructural points as well as effective cost management determine the stability of the company's operations and financial resilience," says Nemunas Biknius, CEO of Amber Grid.
Amber Grid 2023 January-September consolidated net profit amounted to 15,4 million euros and was 45 percent. higher than at the same time in 2022 The higher profit was determined by the profit obtained for the subsidiary company "GET Baltic" by 66 percent. sale of the share package to the European Energy Exchange AG.
in 2023 three-quarter adjusted EBITDA (earnings before taxes, interest, depreciation and amortization) was 19,2 million. euros, when last year at the same time it reached 25,5 million. euros. The change in the indicator is related to changes in natural gas prices, balancing gas flows and lower transit revenues. During 2023 27,8 million was invested in the network during the months of January-September during the implementation of investment projects of gas transmission infrastructure. euros.
Amber Grid's expenses during the three quarters of this year amounted to 43 million. euros and compared to 2022 in the corresponding period, decreased by 2 percent. This was influenced by lower costs for gas network technological needs and balancing services, as well as lower repair and maintenance costs.
The financial results of "Amber Grid" also include the results of the associated gas exchange "GET Baltic". Amber Grid owns 34 percent. of the authorized capital of "GET Baltic".
Gas transmission and consumption volumes for three quarters
During the three quarters of 2023, 16,6 terawatt hours (TWh) of gas were transferred for gas storage in the Inčukalnis underground storage facility in Latvia and for the needs of the Baltic countries and Finland. This is 26 percent. more compared to 2022 in three quarters. During 2023 in January-September, a total of 28,8 TWh of gas was transported to the Lithuanian gas transmission system, not counting the transit to the Karaliaučius region. This is the same as last year at the same time, when 29,6 TWh of gas was supplied to Lithuania. Most of this imported gas (about 67%) was transferred to other countries of the European Union via transit. In January-September 2023, 2,6 TWh of gas was transported to Europe and 2,8 TWh to Lithuania via the GIPL gas pipeline connecting Lithuania and Poland.
Through the Klaipėda LNG terminal, the main source of gas supply to Lithuania and other EU countries, 2023 percent of gas was supplied in the first three quarters of 87. (25 TWh) of all gas transported to the system. Traffic from Latvia accounted for 4 percent. (1 TWh), from Poland - 10 percent. (2,8 TWh).
During January-September, Lithuanian consumers used 22% of less gas than last year at the same time. This year, in nine months, Lithuania's gas demand reached 9,3 TWh of gas, compared to almost 12 TWh at the same time last year.
