A new primary school, which will be attended by about 600 students, is rapidly being built near the Balsiai pro-gymnasium. Today the mayor of the capital Remigius Šimašius visited the construction site and together with the contractors, UAB "Jungtiniai projektai" representatives discussed the progress of the works.
"Balsiai is one of the youngest and fastest growing districts of Vilnius, so we have to respond to future changes in it. With the construction of a new school building, students will be able to attend school as close to home as possible. And not just any school - we invest in creating a quality educational environment, conveniently planning spaces for learning and communication, creating conditions for creating partnerships and welcoming the local community," says Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius.
In spacious, almost 5 thousand. sq. m area, A plus energy efficiency class, two-story building will be equipped with two buildings of different heights, which will be connected to each other by a glazed gallery. Inner courtyards are designed in both buildings. The one-story building will house preschool and first-grader classes, speech therapists and methodical classrooms, the other two-story building will house first-grade classes and common rooms on the first floor, and second-graders will study on the second floor.
Older students of the third and fourth grades will study at Balsiai Progymnasium. Cabinet windows are oriented in the east, south and west directions. In addition, there are spaces for extracurricular activities, choreography, information technology classes, reading and recreation. Next to the training rooms, methodological rooms are also being designed.
The first one-story building will house a sports hall with changing rooms, a canteen, a kitchen, administrative offices and technical rooms. There will be spacious corridors in the common rooms, which will perform a recreational function. An elevator adapted for students with disabilities will be installed. Next to the school there is a convenient parking lot for 21 cars, 12 temporary parking spaces. A covered bicycle parking lot will be installed in the area - Balsiai students like to come to school by bicycle.

The closed school area will be illuminated with high-quality, modern LED lighting. Rest areas with benches will be installed in the courtyards. The building was designed by UAB Projektų rengimo centras.
According to the work managers of UAB "Jungtiniai partneriai" carrying out the work, the foundation of the building, geothermal wells for heating the building (the building will be heated with geothermal energy), outdoor rain nets, brick walls, and concrete structures have already been installed on the construction site of the elementary school since spring.
