An important infrastructure project is being launched in the Žvėrynas district of Vilnius - the reconstruction of the worn-out gas network. These works are necessary to ensure a reliable and safe gas supply to the district's residents in the future.
These works, commissioned by AB Energijos skirstymo operatorius (ESO), will be implemented by UAB Rimgauda, which specializes in the construction and reconstruction of gas pipelines and other engineering networks. The first stages of the reconstruction will start on April 28 of this year.
The main objective of this project is to replace the old and poor-quality low-pressure gas pipeline with a modern medium-pressure gas supply system. The work will be carried out using modern pipe-laying technologies, which allow new polyethylene pipes to be laid into the existing steel ones, with minimal damage to the ground surface and thus reducing inconvenience to residents and road users. During the reconstruction, the old underground steel pipeline will be excavated and new polyethylene pipes will be laid inside it. After the network renovation is completed, the steel pipes that are no longer in use will be disconnected and safely cleaned of gas. The company will carry out all these works in strict compliance with environmental and heritage protection requirements, taking into account the special historical character of the district. value.

The reconstruction of the gas network will take place in stages, covering different streets of Žvėrynas and their courtyards:
- PHASE I (April 2025, 28 09:00 – May 18, 18:00): On Traidenio, Birutė, Pušų streets and in the courtyards of A. Mickevičius, Traidenio, Birutė, Pušų streets.
- PHASE II (May 2025, 19 09:00 – June 1, 18:00): On Traidenio Street and in the courtyards of Traidenio, Pušų, and A. Mickevičius Streets.
- PHASE III (June 2025, 2 09:00 – June 22, 18:00): On Traidenio Street and in the courtyards of Traidenio and A. Mickevičius Streets.
- PHASE IV (June 2025, 23 09:00 – July 13, 18:00): On Traidenio Street and in the courtyards of Traidenio, Kęstutis, A. Mickevičius, and Pušų Streets.
During the reconstruction work, there will be temporary traffic changes and pedestrian diversions. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to be careful and follow temporary traffic diversion and restriction signs.
In cooperation with ESO, the company will also inform Žvėrynas residents in advance about temporary gas supply interruptions.
It is planned that all gas network reconstruction works will be completed by July 2025, 31. The renovated network will ensure a more reliable and efficient gas supply to the residents of Žvėrynas in the long term.
