Vilnius University (VU) is planning to build a new complex in Saulėtekė, where its dormitory town is now, Vilnius municipality announces.
In the design proposals prepared by DO Architects on behalf of VU, it is indicated that five buildings are planned to be built on the plot on Plytinės Street - their total area would reach 8,7 thousand square meters. sq. meters, they would have 292 rooms.
The largest nine-story building with 166 rooms is being designed next to the "Iki" store. The remaining four buildings will be four stories high and each will have 24 to 40 rooms.
"The projected dormitory complex blends harmoniously into the context of the territory through spatial solutions and combines the spatial characteristics of the public buildings of the university campus (tall, dominant volumes protruding above the pine forests) with low-rise (homestead) buildings located in the adjacent territories," the project proposals state.
Green areas, paths, wooden terraces, parking lots will be installed around the buildings, while benches and pavilions for bicycles are designed along the main inner street.
The plot of land belongs to the state, it is managed by Vilnius University in trust.
