The inhabitants of Balsių, a part of Vilnius that has grown up in the open area in several dozen years, hope to soon have a multifunctional community center here, which would reduce the need to travel to another part of the city for everyday or more specific concerns.
The location for the construction of the center is already being considered - Balsių st. 24, but for now the project is only in the initial stage: preparations are being made for a creative workshop, the aim of which is to refine and systematize today's community needs, to find a functional and spatial expression of the building complex that fits the urban context.
According to the 2019 According to surveys of Balsia residents, a multi-functional community center should be a place suitable for gatherings, art and cultural events, non-formal education, active and passive recreation, prayer, socialization and social services.
"The time has come when we have to express to each other the ideas that have been matured for many years, what the Balsiai multifunctional community center should be," says the curator of the creative workshop, Liutauras Nekrošius. - It is an opportunity for different groups of society to come together - local communities, interested social partners - and agree on a common development scenario for the center. Such a consensus would allow the search for implementation possibilities to begin, and in the future it could become an important experience in establishing similar centers in Lithuania - the practice of multifunctional community centers is new."
The participants of the creative workshop will be asked to prepare a search study for the concept of a multifunctional building complex, on the basis of which a design assignment for the purchase of design services will be prepared later. Interdisciplinary teams of at least three members are expected, consisting of at least one architect, as well as an expert in another chosen field (for example, sociology, education, psychology, art, urban planning, landscape architecture, interior design).
Four teams will be selected, each selected team will receive a fee of 3000 euros if the team participates in all sessions of the creative workshop and submits and presents studies that meet the client's expectations (not only explanatory writing, but also architectural drawings, diagrams, visualizations illustrating the idea).
