The latest statistics of the Ministry of Social Security and Labor reveal that people with disabilities make up about 9% of the population in Lithuania. of the entire population of the country, and according to the data of the Lithuanian labor exchange, more than 9,5 thousand. these able-bodied people cannot find work. "Barclays" operation center in Lithuania, in order to contribute to solving the problem of employment of people with disabilities, this year invites people with disabilities to its organized "UNIX Academy" - free Linux administration courses.

"Unfortunately, business in Lithuania, IT companies are no exception, pays too little attention to the integration of people with disabilities into the labor market. We decided to start changing this situation and contribute more actively to increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities. After each "UNIX Academy", a large number of its graduates immediately start a career in IT companies or with us, so we decided to encourage a wider group of society to take advantage of these opportunities. People who may not be able to find work will acquire a new in-demand specialty and the opportunity to work at a well-paid job. This year, we are ready to create special conditions for people with disabilities, and we will also offer not only physical, but also virtual training," says Mariano Andrade Gonzalez, executive director of the Barclays operations center in Lithuania.

This year, for the fourth time, the "UNIX Academy" organized by Barclays Operations Center in Lithuania will start in mid-October. It is planned that the participants, who are familiar with the Linux operating system from the basics, will be able to work as system administrators after successfully completing the training. "For those who want to join the academy, they only need to have IT basics, a laptop, know English and devote two hours to studies on Mondays. The training will last 10 weeks and will end before the Christmas holidays," says Mariano Andrade Gonzalez.

"We immediately invite some training participants to join our team and, after the academy, continue to improve their skills at work. After three academies that have already taken place, many of its graduates are already working for us. Some of them even managed to successfully climb the career ladder at the "Barclays" operations center in Lithuania. For example, one colleague started working almost a year ago and is currently in charge of one shift," says Mariano Andrade Gonzalez.
