August 21-23 The "Baltic Cinema Days" held in Lithuania for the third year will feature even more films for the whole family. The program of the film project, which presents the most interesting Latvian and Estonian film works of recent years, will include four screenings interesting for families and, for the first time, an animated film. All screenings of "Baltic Cinema Days" are free.
The highlight of the program is the Estonian animated work "Lotė and the Lost Dragons" presented at the Berlin Film Festival (dir. Janno Põldma, Heiki Ernits, 2019). Even for the youngest moviegoers, the animated story tells about the adventures of the dogs Lotte and Rožytė. They will go in search of mysterious dragons, which will be accompanied by breathtaking discoveries and even acquaintance with Estonian folk music. Cozy illustrations and an intriguing story will involve not only the little ones in the action, but also the parents accompanying them. The animated film will be presented in Vilnius by one of its directors, Heiki Ernits.

The whole family will also like the Latvian drama "Bile" (dir. Ināra Kolmane), based on the autobiographical trilogy of the same name by the Latvian writer, Nobel Prize nominee Vizma Belševicas. The film will take you to Latvia just before the Second World War. In the center of the story is the girl Bilė, who lacks her mother's warmth. She seeks solace in the world of fantasy. Together with her yard friends, Billie is bound to travel to the utopian land of dreams, which her beloved grandmother once told her about. The film was created together with Lithuanian creators, director Ināra Kolmane and producer Janis Juhnevics will participate in its presentation in Vilnius.
"Mažoji drauge" (dir. Moonika Siimets, 2018), one of the most watched films in Estonian cinemas, which became the country's contender for the Oscar, and received positive reviews at world film festivals, will also be presented at "Baltic Cinema Days". The story tells of a Stalinist village in Estonia and a little girl, Lela, trying to learn how to live in a two-faced world. The girls will face many challenges - after their mother is taken away by the NKVD officers, and they are left alone with their father, they will have to find the answers to disturbing questions: why the blue-black-white flag is forbidden, why the frightening NKVD officer was lurking in their house and when will their mother return home.
The theme of children will also be touched upon by the documentary film "Wait for the sequel" (2018) by the Latvian director Ivars Seleckis. The documentary tells the stories of five very different children, some of whom have very deep roots in Latvia, the families of others settled here only after the Second World War. Someone lives with his grandmother and is impatiently waiting for his parents to return from emigration in England, while someone dreams of becoming an entrepreneur when he grows up. Different social and economic situation, historical context and even nationality, but all children are united by the same curiosity to know the world.
The screenings of "Baltic Cinema Days" in Lithuania will take place on August 21-23 at the "Forum Cinemas Vingis" cinema. On August 22, at 18 p.m., one session will be held at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library.
