Celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year, the film is known for its ironic dialogue and still inspiring sense of style. "Easygoing" is a genre classic that has stood the test of time with the highest marks, about true friendships and the search for identity in adolescence.
"The Little Prince" (dir. Mark Osborne, 2015)
A girl raised by a strict mother meets a neighbor who begins to tell her a story about a little boy she once met in the desert - the Prince. These conversations awaken her imagination, which was hindered by the monotony of everyday life. The film adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's fairy tale encourages children and adults to relax and boldly enter the world of fleeting fantasy.
"Flood" (dir. Gints Zilbalodis, 2024)
A cat who finds refuge on a boat after a flood embarks on a survival adventure in the company of animals he meets along the way. The film, which brought Latvian cinema its first Oscar, has won the hearts of both the youngest viewers and film critics. "BFF. Turbo Adventure Marathon" (dir. Urtė Oettinger and Ignas Meilūnas, 2025)
These are five fun stories about the daily challenges of three best friends, which are full of lessons about emotions and relationships. The humorous scenarios for the little ones were created by Titas Laucius and Marija Kavtaradze, and the characters were voiced by Gelminė Glemžaitė, Milda Noreikaitė, Jonas Šarkus and other famous actors.
"Little Women" (dir. Greta Gerwig, 2019)
Growing up sisters Maggie, Jo, Beth, and Amy rebel against society's stereotypes of women and gradually develop into strong, independent individuals. Louisa May Alcott's novel has been adapted into a film many times, but director Greta Gerwig's version stands out for its unconventional narrative structure and modern take on gender roles. The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Meryl Streep, and Timothée Chalamet.
"Dead Poets Society" (dir. Peter Weir, 1989) A new literature teacher arrives at Welton Academy, a school famous for its conservative upbringing, and his methods are unusual to say the least – he encourages students to tear up textbook pages and question authority figures. The lessons of the teacher, played by Robin Williams, inspire the self-seeking boys to break free and dare to dream. The film, which won an Oscar for best screenplay, is still considered an extremely important guide for generations of young people preparing for life.
The open-air cinema festival for young people "Cinema under the stars. Junior" will take place on the terrace of the MO Museum from June 3 to 6.
