The film "The Good Nazi" ("The Good Nazi", 2018, 52 min., directed by Yaron Niski) is a tribute to an extraordinary historical figure - Major Karl Plagg, who headed the forced labor camp HKP 562, which in 1943-1944 operated on Subačiaus Street in the capital as a rule for military vehicles.
During the Second World War, Major Plaggė was transferred to Lithuania as a military engineer. And having previously doubted the Nazi ideology, here the officer made a fateful decision that helped save over 250 lives.
"I saw unimaginable things that I could not agree with... That's when I decided to work against the Nazis", K. Plaggė, who was posthumously awarded the title of Righteous Among the Nations, later shared his memories.
"According to his vision, HKP was more than a workshop. For many of these people, it was a license to live", says one of the heroes of the film "The Good Nazi", archaeologist Dr. Richard Freund.
The film presents the efforts of him and other researchers from the United States of America, Canada, Israel and Lithuania to find the mass graves and secret places in the former labor camp - malins, where Jews hid from the Nazis.
In the film, we will also hear the testimonies of persons imprisoned in the HKP labor camp who managed to survive the Holocaust. One of them is today's famous artist, honorary citizen of Vilnius Samuelis Bakas.
After the screening of the film "The Good Nazi", there will be a discussion in which film producer Simcha Jacobovici (Canada-Israel), archaeologists dr. Richard Freund (USA), Dr. Jonas Seligmanas (Israel) and Ramūnas Šmigelskas (Lithuania), geoarchaeologist and cartographer dr. Philip Reeder (USA). The event will be held in English.
