Starting the eleventh season of open-air cinema "China under the stars" invites you to spend summer evenings with good cinema and reveals the film program. At the opening session on July 27 the audience will see Algird Aramina's film "Maža izžažtis" (1971), in which Vytautas Kernagis created the iconic role. Movie lovers every weekday until August 29. are welcome in the courtyard of the Palace of Lords in Vilnius, where the first ones will be able to see the latest films, the most prominent films of the past year and the stories that have already become cult.
"We are glad that "Cinema under the stars" has withstood the tests sent by the pandemic and will continue to allow you to enjoy quality cinema in the open air. The program of this year's event is full of surprises, romance, outer space and exclusive premieres," says Andrė Balžekienė, head of "Kinas po žvaždinamis".
Yearly event surprises with its visuals - the eleventh movie season "Cinema under the stars" is welcomed with the work of illustrator Martynas Pavilonis.
"When I received the offer to create this year's visual, I agreed without hesitation. The theme of the night is very close to my work, and I always find a lot of inspiration in cinema, so creating the visual was easy and fun. I wanted the illustration to have a bit of neo-romanticism, have a cinematic atmosphere with a bit of magic, and most importantly, create a positive emotion. "Cinema under the stars" is not an ordinary visit to the cinema, it is a completely different experience that awakens new receptors and imagination, I hope this is reflected in my work as well", says illustrator Martynas Pavilonis.
Advance premieres
This year's "Movies Under the Stars" season is full of premieres. One of them is the long-awaited second feature film by Lina Luzytė "Castle", telling the sensitive story of Monika, her mother Jolanta and her grandmother, who emigrated from Lithuania to Ireland. The audience will also be able to laugh at the French humor comedy "Divorce Club", to experience first love in the drama presented at the Venice Film Festival "milk teeth" and see the hit of the Sundance Festival - an existential comedy called the modern version of "Švilpik dienos". palm springs.
Outstanding personalities
Meetings with outstanding personalities are traditionally waiting for the audience at the open-air cinema. Documentary "Leonard Cohen's Words of Love" will shed light on a little-known phase of the legendary singer's life. In the 1960s in Hydra, one of the Greek islands, Leonard Cohen, a still little-known writer, and single mother Mariana Ilen joined a community of artists, writers and musicians. The never-before-seen footage reveals an idyllic portrait of bohemian life, the time when Leonard and Mariana's 50-year friendship began.
Another artist whom we will get to know more closely in "Cinema under the Stars" is the legendary French chansonnier of Armenian origin, composer, actor Charles Aznavour, who is called the Frank Sinatra of France. Few people know that since 1948, when he received his first camera as a gift from Edith Piaf, Charles has not let it go. The camera accompanied him everywhere - Aznavur filmed his life, and his life resembled a movie. Documentary "Charles Aznavour" is a film-diary of a legendary singer, illustrated with his most famous songs.
Love stories
In addition to screenings of film classics, the imaginary "Cinema under the stars" for dogs invites you to celebrate the centenary of cinema genius Federico Fellini and watch the director's iconic film together "Eight and a Half" (1963). Next to the time-tested classics, we will also see newer, but already cult films, including one of the most interesting contemporary directors, Christopher Nolan "The Beginning". Each film of this master of cinema becomes an important event for the film community. While the whole world is waiting for the director's latest work "Tenet" premiere, which was moved to the end of summer due to the pandemic, we will even remember two of the director's previous films in "Cinema under the stars".

This year, "Cinema under the stars" raises its eyes to the sky and invites you to look into the vastness of space. Christopher Nolan's film "Among the Stars" raises the question - is humanity destined to die on Earth? A group of intrepid astronauts venture into the depths of space in search of answers. Alfonso Cuaron "Gravity", leaving a huge mark in the history of fantasy cinema, invites you to experience a survival drama full of tension and beauty, surrounded by the silence of space. Engaging documentary "Spaceship Earth" tells about the birth of the ambitious project "Biosphere 2". In 1991, eight people dressed in futuristic uniforms said goodbye to ordinary life and locked themselves under airtight glass domes for two years. Although they did not leave Earth's orbit, their mission sought to answer the question of whether it is possible to create conditions for humanity to live on other planets.
