The fourth part of the series "Moving Images" will take place on April 26th. In the Sapiegi Palace" session, which will present the work of internationally recognized Polish artist Agnieszka Polska. The program of this session invites viewers to embark on a hypnotic journey through multi-layered worlds constructed using digital technologies and animation.
"Moving Images in the Sapieha Palace": Systems of Knowledge, Feminist Worldview, Language, and Archives
“Moving Images at the Sapieha Palace” is a monthly screening of artist films at the Sapieha Palace, accompanied by meetings and conversations. The works presented in the first season’s program foster a critical relationship with modernity: questions are raised about systems of knowledge and forms of representation, with special attention paid to archives, memory, language and feminist worldviews. The cycle has already shown works by Onyeka Igwe, Eva Koťátková, Emilija Škarnulytė, Barbara Hammer, Gunvor Nelson and Chiemi Shimada. The April screening is dedicated to Agnieszka Polska, an artist whose work maneuvers between melancholy and irony, inviting viewers to reflect on their own feelings and experiences in a constantly changing world.
The Lithuanian audience is familiar with Polska's work from the 2021th Baltic Triennial in 14. In the center of contemporary art, and in 2026 her solo exhibition is planned there. In addition, the artist's video work "Correction Exercises" (2008) can be seen in the exhibition "Reverse Skeletons" currently on display at the Sapieha Palace. Abroad, Polska's works have been presented at such institutions as MoMA and the New Museum in New York, the Pompidou Center and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Tate Modern in London, the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Nottingham Contemporary, and the Venice, Sydney, Guangzhou, Istanbul and other international biennials.
The screening program includes a premiere
Agnieszka Polska's film program invites viewers to embark on a unique visual journey. The screening will begin with the premiere of the artist's latest film, The Book of Flowers (2023). It will be followed by previous video works: Perfect Lives (2019), The New Sun (2017), My Little Planet (2016), and Days of the Future (2013). In her early works, Polska focused on forgotten episodes in the history of avant-garde art, the powers of art, and the responsibility of artists, while in her latest works, she examines the intertwining of humans and other life forms and socio-technological infrastructures, and reflects on the ecological state of the world and its future.
"I am very happy that in this screening we will be able to see a new work, "The Book of Flowers", which has not yet been shown in Lithuania. The film weaves a fantastic narrative about the symbiotic relationship between flowers and people. The visual form of the work is also intriguing - it was created using "Stable Diffusion, an artificial intelligence image generation tool. In this video, Polska considers the future of the film medium, in which, according to the artist, traditional storytelling can be replaced by world-building.world-building)”, says Inesa Brašiškė, curator of the program “Moving Images at the Sapieha Palace”.
The films will be shown on April 26 in the Great Hall of the Sapieha Palace. The first screening is at 11.00:12.30 a.m., and the program will be repeated at 14.00:15.30, 17.00:1 p.m., 15:XNUMX p.m., and XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. The total duration of each screening is XNUMX hour XNUMX minutes.
