October 20 In the Palace of the Governors, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, led by the artistic director and chief. conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius, will be invited to the Baltic Orchestras Festival a concert "100 Strings". Musicians from three symphony orchestras from the Baltic countries will unite their efforts at the event for an impressive purpose.
"The musicians of the symphony orchestras of the Baltic countries are happy with the joint projects that we have been carrying out in the three Baltic countries for many years. For the last couple of years, our cooperation was disrupted by the pandemic, but this year we managed to bring together the strings of all three Baltic countries. That's why we named this concert "100 strings", - said Stasys Pancekauskas, head of the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, about the importance of the festival, which has been going on for more than a decade.
String players from the Latvian national (artistic director and chief conductor Tarmos Peltokoski), Estonian national (artistic director and chief conductor Olari Eltsas) and Lithuanian state (artistic director and chief conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius) symphony orchestras will perform on the stage of the Palace of Rulers. The concert will also feature invited guests - the winner of many prestigious prizes, the Vilnius State Quartet.
The concert will feature a program specially prepared for the string orchestra. In the first part, listeners will be able to hear the Prelude and Toccata for Strings by Felix Bajor (b. 1934) and the "Fantasia on the theme of Thomas Thales" by British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) for string orchestra. It will be performed together with the strings of three symphony orchestras and the musicians of the Vilnius State Quartet. The work is inspired by the XNUMXth century. by the English composer Thomas Tall, whose melody was developed by RV Williams in his work. The composer's biographer, James Day, calls Fantasia "a piece that undoubtedly highlights RV Williams' distinctive compositional signature."
The evening will end with one of the most famous compositions of the Czech romantic Antonin Dvořák (1841–1904) - Serenade for strings in E major. The five-part serenade reveals five different faces of music – the changing styles accompany the listener on a journey through the expressions of the deepest emotions.
The musicians of the Baltic symphony orchestras will be conducted at the concert by maestro G. Rinkevičius, one of the founders of the Baltic Orchestra Festival.
