“We are each other's biggest fans, it's a shame my parents didn't have more children, we would have created an unreal group,” said Luísa Sobral, a cult Portuguese artist and performer, sister of 2017 Eurovision winner Salvador Sobral, who came to Lithuania two years ago. This summer, the sister-brother duo is coming to the Kristupos Festival, which this year has a dialogue theme.
The talents, who come from the same family, have performed in Lithuania before, but it is only at the Kristupas Summer Festival that Luísa and Salvadoras Sobraliai will perform together for the first time. Their joint concerts are a real rarity, and on July 31 in Vilnius, in the courtyard of the A. Mickevičius Library, an unexpected experience awaits the audience.
The performers, who started singing at a young age, are confidently following their own path. Luísa is considered an outstanding Portuguese composer and performer, and Salvador, as the legendary Brazilian composer, performer and musician Caetano Velos says, is one of the best singers today.
Lithuanians know S. Sobralis not only from the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest, where he performed the sensitive ballad "Amar pelos dois". This ballad not only gave Portugal its first victory in the contest, but also a wonderful story of brotherhood and sisterhood. The song was written for Salvador by Luísa, who replaced her sick brother during rehearsals, and in the final allowed him to experience the feeling of winning. They both became part of music history.
Although both performers are talented musicians, their musical styles and projects differ. Luísa focuses mainly on songwriting and solo performances, Salvador - on jazz and experimental music. Their different interests, performances in different countries mean that the creative projects of the brother and sister rarely overlap.
"In my work, there is a message more important than anything else. I may not be carrying a message about the Portuguese musical tradition, but I am sharing my thoughts in Portuguese. In the last decade, I feel that we have been falling in love with our language more and more through music. The Portuguese language is connected to my heart," said L. Sobral.
Those who have already been to her concert have experienced that before each song, the performer tells the story of the song on stage. Yes, she hopes that the listener will be able to travel along on the musical journey, even if they don't understand the words.
S. Sobralis' performances in Lithuania each time become a cozy, warm communion between the performer and the audience. Every time, before coming to Lithuania, Salvadoras remembers the extraordinary warmth of the Lithuanian audience.
A fan of jazz, Latin American rhythms and bolero-inspired music, Salvador has collaborated with artists such as Caetano Veloso, Silvia Pérez Cruz, Tim Bernardes, Zé Ibarra, Silvana Estrada, Jorge Drexler, Mayra Andrade, António Zambujo, Marco Mezquida, Lau Noah and Milhan. S. Sobral has said that he is inspired by the books he reads, the stories told by those around him, life itself and, of course, dinners in the port of Lisbon with the people closest to him.
The performers promise that concert In Vilnius, at the Kristupas Festival, there will be a journey through time - the two will share songs and stories that will allow listeners to get to know each other's musical and personal lives more deeply, and they will perform songs that are important to both of them and bring back fond memories.
The St. Christopher Summer Festival will take place from July 1 to September 9 in Vilnius' Bernardine Park, in the courtyard of the A. Mickevičius Library, in the churches of St. Casimir and St. Catherine, and in the Lithuanian National Philharmonic.
