The Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, led by the artistic director and chief. conducted by conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius, continues the tradition of offering the listeners masterpieces of sacred music during the Advent period. December 12 at the Kaunas State Philharmonic and on December 13. Together with Lina Dambrauskaite, Simona Liamos, Milda Tubelyte, Edgars Davidovičius and the Kaunas State Choir (conductor Petras Bingelis), the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will invite you to hear one of the greatest works in the history of music - Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B minor - at the Vilnius Congress Palace.
JS Bach (1685-1750) composed this masterpiece of baroque choral music just a year before his death. It is true that, after hearing the scale and grandeur of the work, the listener may get the impression that the composer created the Mass as the final work of his life, but a number of its parts were written on various occasions in much earlier periods. Nevertheless, the piece conveys JS Bach's lifelong mission to use music to express faith in one stunning work that elevates the intellect and the spirit. Thunderous fugues and fantastic choral music create the maximum effect provided by the orchestra and choir, and the vocal and instrumental solos can compete with opera in their tenderness and drama. JS Bach's Mass is not a single object; it is a synthesis of the composer's entire work. Therefore, perhaps even more than the scale of the work, the musical and spiritual integrity of the Mass is astounding, especially knowing that JS Bach used different compositional techniques to create different parts. It is true that JS Bach himself never heard a complete performance of this piece - it was first played more than a century after the composer's death. JS Bach's Mass in B Minor is considered by critics to be among the greatest masterpieces of human heritage alongside Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel and Shakespeare's dramas, and hearing it live is a must experience in everyone's life.
