There is a surprise at Maestro Gintaras Rinkevičius' anniversary concerts. Violinist Alena Baeva, who has been sick with the flu, will be replaced by Spanish violin star Leticia Moreno on February 21 at the LVSO Concert Hall and on February 22 at the Kaunas State Philharmonic.
The violinist will play one of the most famous works by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius – A concert for violin and orchestra in D minor. In the second part of the concert, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will invite you to listen to Czech composer Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 in E minor, better known as the Symphony "From the New World".
"L. Moreno has the grace of a flamenco dancer, the strength of character of an Andalusian singer "cantaora" and the pensive gaze of Pedro Almodóvar's characters. She is the perfect ambassador of Spanish music," - this is what the French daily "Le Figaro" wrote about the famous violinist.
The soloist, who leaves no one indifferent, captivates both the audience and critics with her special stage charisma: "Fiery interpretation, exalted lyricism and expression. Captivating power of suggestion, virtuosity and brilliance," - this is how L. Moreno's performance was described by one of the largest Spanish daily newspapers, "El Pais".
The violinist has performed in prestigious concert halls around the world: New York's Carnegie Hall with the Teatro Real Orchestra in Madrid, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, the Vienna Musikverein with the Vienna Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, the Odeon Theater in Paris, the Grand Mozarteum Concert Hall in Salzburg, the Cologne and Warsaw Philharmonic Halls, the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic in Krakow with the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Santory Hall Concert Hall and elsewhere.
L. Moreno has collaborated with the world's most famous conductors: Zubin Mehta, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Paavo Järvi, Christoph Eschenbach, Krzysztof Penderecki, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Gustavo Gimeno, Peter Eötvös and many others.
The violinist also gives solo recitals and chamber music concerts, and plays with famous musicians: cellists Sol Gabetta, Mario Brunello, Leonard Elschenbroich, pianists Bertrand Chamayou, Lauma Skride, accordionist Ksenija Sidorova, and other famous soloists.
L. Moreno's discography includes her latest album, "Piazzolla", released by the prestigious record label "Deutsche Grammophon". The album was recorded at the famous "Abbey Road" studio in London and the Emilio Berliner Studio in Berlin with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada. Among L. Moreno's latest recordings is the album "Spanish Landscapes - a Study of Spanish Music", released by "Universal / Deutsche Grammophon", which features music by Pablo de Sarasate, Enrique Granados, Manuel de Falla and others.
L. Moreno studied with Zakhar Bron, Maxim Vengerov and Mstislav Rostropovich at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía Conservatory in Madrid, the Cologne University of Music and Dance and the Guildhall School in London. She was the youngest recipient of the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Foundation scholarship.
The Spanish-born violinist has Peruvian roots, so she maintains strong creative ties with Latin America, especially her family's country of origin. Last year, in Lima, the capital of Peru, L. Moreno performed the world premiere of the Violin Concerto "Aurora" by young composer Jimmy López Bellido with the Houston Symphony Orchestra.
The soloist plays a violin made in 1762 by violin maker Nicola Gagliano.
