Since the beginning of May, the music of the Vilnius carillon has been playing again: every day at 13:19.15 and XNUMX:XNUMX. we invite you to listen to short free concerts.
"Last year, the idea of inviting townspeople and guests of the capital to free fifteen-minute concerts twice a day worked. During the day, groups of schoolchildren and senior citizens or employees of surrounding institutions came more often. In the evenings, carillon concerts attracted many tourists or Vilnius residents ready to be entertained. So this season, from the beginning of May, short concerts of the Vilnius carillon are being played again, in which there are church music, classics, works written especially for the carillon, and even popular melodies," shares Dominican brother Mindaugas Slapšinskas OP.
This year, we added to the concert program new pieces of XNUMXth-century music arranged by the Japanese carillonneur Toru Takao.
Until October 1 every day at 13 p.m. and 19.15:XNUMX p.m., there will be free fifteen-minute concerts.
In 2015, St. in the tower of the church of the apostles Philip and Jacob, the largest carillon in central Europe is installed, with as many as 61 bells. The smallest weighs 8 kilograms, the largest - almost a quarter of a ton. They were cast by the famous Royal Eijsbouts bell foundry in the city of Asten in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Vilnius carillon is also distinguished by the fact that it is not only the largest in Lithuania, but also the only one installed in a church.
