Saturday, 18 p.m. three Vilnius University (VU) choirs "Gaudeamus", "Virgo" and "Pro musica" invite listeners to the capital's VU St. The ceremonial closing of the season will be held in St. John's Church a concert. The collectives will present a program consisting of the most beautiful and newest works, as well as the works that helped to earn the highest ratings in this year's "Juventus" choir competition and the most successful international projects abroad.
The highlight of this concert season for the VU choirs was winning two top awards at the international competition Juventus - the choir Gaudeamus won first place and was awarded a special prize for the best competition program, and the girl group Virgo won second place and received a special award for the best performed national work.
During the season, the collectives presented the country's choral culture quite widely abroad. Choir "Gaudeamus" performed on the occasion of March 11 at the famous Paris St. in the Church of Mary Magdalene. Girls' choir "Virgo" participated in an international competition in Granada (Spain) and performed its program in the famous Manuel de Falla concert hall. The VU singers recently returned from touring in Poland and in Belarus, where, as well as in the capital Vilnius, they organized concerts dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the composer S. Moniuszko. And the mixed choir "Pro musica" performed in the great hall of the P. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow. The team will soon go to Italy to participate in the international competition in Savignano.
"The closing concerts of the VU choirs' season become a beautiful tradition, in them our listeners can hear unreleased compositions and the most beautiful works prepared for the tour, we select for them the pearls of the whole season's programs," said the artistic director and chief conductor of the choirs, Rasa Gelgotienė.
This year, the closing program of the season will consist of works from competition performances, and it will be supplemented by exclusive, never-before-seen opus of choirs. At the concert, we will hear the works of Lithuanian composers Giedrias Svilainis, Zita Bružaitė, Donatas Zakars, Vytautas Miškinis, Juoz Naujalis, as well as the works of our closest neighbors - the Polish Piotr Janczak and the currently extremely popular Latvian composer Eriks Ešenvaldas.
As always, there will be surprises in the VU choir concert program, and to make the works sound even more unique, the unique St. The acoustics of John's Church and its spaces will play the antiphon. In the last composition of E. Ešenwald "Stars" performed by all three choirs, the entire multi-vaulted space of the church will be filled with the sonic and spatial harmonies of cups and "constellations", in addition to choral chords.
The concert will be conducted by Rasa Gelgotienė, Ignas Garla, Indrė Veličkaitė and Modestas Jankūnas.
