A unique project created by thirteen well-known Lithuanian artists - an exclusive art gallery in the stairwells of residential houses - opened its doors to Vilnius residents and guests of the city. Art lovers could visit the first gallery of this scale, uniting different art directions in Lithuania, established in the capital's "Užupis krantinių" settlement, together with the tour organizers - the "Gatve gyvos" guide team.
Albertas Kazlauskas, the founder of the "Gatve gyvos" project, guide, says that he was impressed by the fact that the project was being prepared for about a year. During this period, sculptors, painters, ceramists, graphic artists and photographers worked actively to ensure that their original works organically filled the non-standard space and symbolized certain details characteristic of the Užupis district of the capital.
"Our goal as tour guides was to visually and in detail convey to the participants what the creators wanted to say in their works - each of them has its own story. From my experience in other excursions, I can say that the townspeople are always curious to get to those places in Vilnius that were little or never seen before, so these excursions are extremely popular, and the participants' time in them is meaningful", says A. Kazlauskas.
The "Užupis krantinių" gallery in the stairwells is decorated with the works of Eglė Ridikaitė, Kristina Norvilaitė, Vaida Keleras, Kunigunda Dineikaitė, Tomas Martišauskis, Nerijas Baublis, Mingailė Mikelėnaitė, Monika Gedrimaitė, Justina Kildišytė, Vita and Gedimin Kalinauskas, Tad Šimkaus, and the central square of the settlement is decorated with the blacksmith Raimonds Vaitkūnos fountain.
