Have you heard bats chirping? Do you know that each species emits a unique, unique sound? On August 18, at 20:00 p.m., bat observation will take place on the lawn near the Directorate of Verkii and Pavilnii Regional Parks (Žaliųių ežeri str. 53). Bat protection specialist Remigijus Karpuška will tell about the secretive way of life of these nocturnal inhabitants, introduce their monitoring methods and dispel myths. Come and find out why bats are not to be feared! Bring all your friends who still believe in the myths about bats and worry about the shadows in the evening sky.
By emitting ultrasonic waves, the bat orients itself in the environment, fixes and hunts the prey. Some clever butterflies have developed their own protection technique - when they sense the bat's signal, they dive straight down, thus deceiving the hunter. Some moths have grown special hairs that absorb the ultrasound signal and it is not so easy for the bat to capture this prey. However, these are probably the only cases when the victim manages to escape from the bats. In all other cases, they are unbeatable snipers. You will be able to see this with your own eyes - watching how bats hunt hundreds of bloodsuckers at night.
During the event, the aim will be to acquaint the event participants with the bats living in Lithuania and their protection methods. Also, residents and guests of the city of Vilnius will learn about bats and their protection methods, how to behave when a bat is found and how to "ask" it out of the premises safely and without causing harm. It is expected that in this way the environmental awareness of Vilnius residents and guests of the capital will increase, therefore, illegal visits to bat wintering grounds will decrease, citizens will feel their duty to report bats preparing to hibernate in unsafe places.
Event will take place on Friday, August 18, at 20.00:53 p.m. At the Directorate of Pavilniai and Verkiai Regional Parks (Žaliųi Ežerų St. XNUMX).
