The Lithuanian Jewish (Lithvak) community on April 28. (Thursday) invites all conscious and responsible members of society, representatives of diplomatic missions residing in Lithuania and representatives of Lithuanian institutions to the commemoration of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) at the Paneriai Memorial.
All over the world Yom HaShoah - Holocaust Remembrance Day - is celebrated this year on April 27-28. During it, you are invited to remember the bloody tortures and murders committed by Nazi criminals and their henchmen, to realize the pain and loss caused by the Holocaust, and to realize the danger posed by today's manifestations of anti-Semitism.
Faina Kukliansky, the chairwoman of the Lithuanian Jewish (Litvak) community, emphasized that the very participation in the Yom HaShoah commemoration sends a clear message: "The scars left by the Holocaust tragedy are deeply etched not only in the memory of the Jewish nation. These are also the non-healing scars of Lithuania, which the passing years do not reduce in the slightest. At that time, that nightmare took place in the streets and squares of Lithuanian cities, suburbs and slums. Today, we must look at the tragedy of the Holocaust with open eyes and take concrete actions to combat the still emerging manifestations of anti-Semitism. As each of us participates in the commemoration of Yom HaShoah, we say very clearly - we will not allow such tragedies to happen again. It's hard to fathom, but lately we've been seeing attacks on the Paneriai Memorial. We see the desecration of the memory of the murdered Lithuanian Jews. We will not be silent and will not tolerate such actions - history teaches us that silence and lowered heads only encourage criminals to go further - this will not happen."
The Lithuanian Jewish (Lithvak) community is organizing the commemoration of Yom HaShoah - Holocaust Remembrance Day - at the Panerių Memorial (Agrastų St. 15 A) on April 28. 12 o'clock.
