Royal robes woven with gold thread, intriguing marriages, and luxurious interiors are just a few of the features that could be used to describe the dramatic Baroque era. This year, the Lithuanian Museums Road program is dedicated to Baroque, and the Royal Palace is hosting a Baroque Night this Saturday.
On May 17, during the European Museum Night, scientists, historians, and educators will invite visitors to the Royal Palace to search for signs of the Baroque. From 18.00:XNUMX p.m. until midnight, there will be music and dancing at the Silent Disco. silent disc) or quietly listen to the most interesting stories about the Baroque era.
The museum's permanent exhibitions offer an introduction to perhaps the most famous poet of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Motiejus Kazimieras Sarbievijus. You will see the publications that made MK Sarbievijus famous throughout Europe: the collection of poetry "Four Lyrical Books" published in Antwerp in 1632 (Lyricorum libri IV) edition, the title page of which is decorated with a graphic work by the Antwerp engraver Cornelis Galle, based on a drawing by Peter Paul Rubens, and a selection of "Hymns" (Carmina), published in Paris in 1759.
From 19.00:22.00 PM to XNUMX:XNUMX PM, for the first time in the history of the Royal Palace Museum, Baroque "shorts" will be presented - a tournament of nine short stories and conversations about the Baroque era prepared by museum staff, accompanied by music from the period. This is a unique opportunity to learn more about the ruler's estate and its daily life, innovations and the consequences of the Flood for the Baroque heritage.
Paulina Blažytė, the museum's cultural events coordinator, shares: "We are very happy to have come up with the short story format this year, because I think it is especially effective and attractive on Museum Night, when people want to visit, see and hear as much as possible."
The Royal Palace Museum will conclude the European Museum Night with last year's hugely successful "Silent Disco" - this year, visitors are invited to put on their headphones and move to the rhythm of their choice, and the Eurovision Song Contest final that evening has dictated part of the playlist that the audience will hear. Contemporary Baroque music will also be played. mixes, interpretations.
"The slogan of this year's "Silent Disco" is "From Baroque to Punk Rock", so, of course, we will not forget representatives of the rock and punk genres - "Guns N' Roses", "AC/DC", "Bon Jovi", "blink-182" and others," adds P. Blažytė. Tickets for this event can be purchased at paysera.lt.
On the Night of Museums, visitors will be able to visit the permanent exhibitions of the Royal Palace Museum for free, as well as the exhibition "Pidhirtsi Palace. History and Art Collections", presenting the European Diamond of Ukrainian Heritage, and the exhibition "Openings. From the Art Collection of the Bank of Lithuania", which will be open only until this Sunday.
