March 20-21 we celebrate the Spring Equinox, when the length of day and night are equal throughout the globe, and after March 21 the day becomes longer than the night.
Every year in Vilnius, we welcome this holiday with enchanting fire and light installations, live performances by artists and musical compositions, thus marking the struggle of dark and light forces in nature. This year it will be possible to see all this virtually - March 20 19 p.m. of the event Facebook page.
Welcoming the astronomical spring, we will invite Vilnius residents and city guests to Šventaragis valley to admire the sculptures of verbs, which this year have been chosen as a symbol that gives meaning to the Spring Equinox and reflects the tree of life.
Once upon a time, it was believed that a green verb from a kaduji or blind protects a person from thunderstorms, fires, evil eyes, diseases, and at the same time, it is a symbol of the beginning of spring. Later, the verba characteristic of the Vilnius region acquired not only a ceremonial, but also a decorative purpose, but retained three main parts of the structure of the tree of life, symbolizing the zones of the Universe: the stem of the verba corresponds to the underground world, the middle (decorated) part - the world of humans, animals and plants, and tied at the top reed tassels symbolize the sky, the domain of the gods.
The sculptures at the National Museum of Lithuania will delight passers-by during the Spring Equinox, Palm Sunday and Easter holidays - from March 17 until April 7The author of the sculptures is Rytas Jonas Belevičius.
