"Traditionally, the collection of this Vilnius auction is divided into eight themes, and it consists of a total of 175 lots - works of painting and graphics, sculptures, cartography and other collectible Lithuanian values. All the works are special, but I have no doubt that a few lots will attract a lot of attention, which we can confidently call sensations significant for the cultural heritage and history of Lithuania", says Simona Skaisgirytė-Makselienė, head of the Vilnius auction, inviting everyone to visit the exhibition that will be open this week, where you can get to know or just take a closer look at the entire auction collection.
One of the biggest sensations of this collection is a complete and impeccable condition of the 1738th century. avg. Publisher Johann Jakob Kanter (1786-1770) map atlas of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. 1 The 670000:16 scale wall map, drawn up and engraved in Berlin and printed in Regensburg, consists of 11 bound sheets. They depict the Kingdom of Poland, the Kingdom of Prussia and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the maps of which occupy most of the publication - XNUMX sheets in total. This atlas is not only a valuable historical resource, but also a wonderful work of art: it is embossed with copper engravings outlined by hand and done in watercolor technique, and the cartouche of the title page depicts a figural etching.
According to S. Skaisgirytė-Makselienė, the only known in Lithuania, but not a complete copy of Johann Jakob Kanter's map atlas of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, is stored in the "Tartle" Lithuanian Art Recognition Center. "And this one, which is in the collection of the Vilnius auction, also stands out because it is in extremely good condition," she says.
No less than this atlas of maps is also intriguing from the 1621th century. help - 1684th century a painting attributed to the Italian artist Giusseppe Rossi was created at the junction, commissioned by the founders of Pažaislis Bank, Pači. The two works of this artist in the collection of the Vilnius auction depict allegories of time and harvest with the portraits of Kristupas Zygmantas Paco (1685-XNUMX), chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and his wife Klara Izabelė Laskaris Pacienė (?-XNUMX) incorporated into them.
"The two XNUMXth-century paintings in the private collection help - XNUMXth century Ave. the created paintings are interesting from both an iconographic and historical point of view. In the context of the art heritage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, these are examples of allegorical compositions that have survived extremely sparsely, - says Dr. Dr. (hp) Rūta Janonienė. - Although the exact history of the origin of the works is not known, oral history connects them with the artistic environment of Pažaislis and with the person of the founder of this exceptional ensemble, the chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Kristupas Zigmantas Paco".
According to her, if you compare the features of the face of the armored knight depicted in the painting with other known paintings by Kristupas Zygmantas Paco, it is obvious that this nobleman is depicted in the painting. In another canvas, the portrait of a woman with his wife is less obvious, but the possibility that she is depicted cannot be ruled out. These allegorical compositions correspond to the XNUMXth century. help - XNUMXth century Ave. Given the nature of the baroque culture of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, it can be assumed that they could have been intended for some special occasion, most likely for the decoration of celebrations such as the funeral of Pacai or the consecration of the Pažaislis church they founded.
More information about these interesting works is provided by the physical and chemical tests carried out by the specialists of the Pranas Gudynas Restoration Center of the Lithuanian Art Museum, the conclusions of which can also be seen in the exhibition of the Vilnius auction.
In addition to these three sensations, the collection of the Vilnius auction is decorated with other famous names, namely Kazys Šimonis, Vytautas Kasiulis, Kazys Varnelis, Jonas Čeponis, Petras Repšys, Stasys Eidrigevičius, Salvador Dali, Vitas Luckus, Konstantinas Gorskis, Vincentas Gečas, Algirdas Petrulis, Samuelis Buck and others.
