Vilnius University (VU), inviting you to meet this year at the largest popular culture festival "Comic Con Baltics", promises to reveal what science, fiction and animation have in common. May 24-26 In Vilnius, "Litexpo", four VU faculties will present themselves at the event: History, Mathematics and Informatics, Philosophy, Kaunas.
Representatives of the Faculty of History of VU will invite the participants of the event to a workshop where they will be able to get acquainted with the special heraldic language and create their own personal coat of arms. Heraldic rules exist not only in reality, they are also followed by the creators of fiction: coats of arms and their symbolism are inseparable from the Middle Ages of the epic fantasy classic "Lord of the Rings", the seven kingdoms of "Game of Thrones", the newly screened universe of "The Dune" or the well-recognized spells of the "Harry Potter" saga and part of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The history of the coat of arms, as a symbol of a person, family, organization, city or state, is no less engaging than works of fiction - this will be told by the character of Indiana Jones at the VU stand.
VU Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics will invite you to a seminar where many intellectual and creative challenges and tasks will await you. Contestants in the Science pick-up lines competition will have to come up with a pick-up line with a word related to mathematics, computer science or natural sciences within one minute. All those who wish will also be invited to draw the tribe of the cat Micius, the symbol of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of VU, and, of course, to try their hand at solving a math task. This is part of the activities that representatives of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of VU will offer to the visitors of this year's "Comic Con".
The professors and students of the Institute of Asian and Transcultural Studies of VU Faculty of Philosophy will invite you to try several activities related to Asian and Middle Eastern cultures. On all days of the event, visitors to the VU stand will be able to see how their names are written in Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic or Hindi characters. On Friday afternoon there will be a demonstration of ebru, Turkish water painting, a henna hand painting workshop, and on Saturday afternoon there will be a real Turkish coffee tasting.
Another reason to visit the VU stand is the cyber station, where students and teachers of the information systems and cyber security study program of the VU Kaunas Faculty, together with representatives of the VU Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, will provide an opportunity for young enthusiasts to test their knowledge. Here it will be possible to try the version of the cyber competition "Capture The Flag" adapted for the event.
