Vilnius residents and guests are invited to celebrate Midsummer in various parts of the capital in the coming days - a rich program reflecting various traditions awaits. From wreath-making to open-air discos - everyone will find something close to their heart.
June 19th: Midsummer in Žirmūnai and Birbyniai observatory
On Wednesday, June 19, at 18 p.m., the Midsummer Festival will begin at Žirmūnai Beach. The groups "Šnipiškiečių balsai", "Guboja", folklore ensembles "Vilniaus gija", "Jorė", the folk group "Ainiai" and Anatolijus Oleinikas will perform here.
From 19 p.m. The Dew Festival will also take place at the Birbyniai Observation Deck, where visitors will be treated to traditional wreath-weaving education, šakočis baking, a Midsummer bonfire, music and an atmosphere of fellowship. The program includes the music of Gediminas Žilis kanklės, the group “Buzzing Lips”, the ensemble “CoCoMi” and Gabrielius Talijūnas, and the event will be crowned by songs from the Dranseikiai village chapel.
June 20 – Midsummer’s Eve in different parts of Vilnius
On Thursday, the festivities will continue at several locations in the capital:
- The little lake of Šeškiuk from 17 p.m. will invite you to a celebration for the whole family: animators, a search for a fern flower, sports competitions, a foam show, wreath weaving and concerts will be waiting. In the evening, Šarūnas Mačiulis ("Polarized Glasses"), the groups "Funky", "Timohi", "Bičiuliai", "Eliya Maris" will perform, and from 23 p.m. - a disco.
- By the Neris, next to LITEXPO, from 18 p.m. there will be a wreath-laying ceremony, dancing and concert, which will feature Asta Pylipaitė, Lazdynai community groups, the group "Tėviškė", Valdemaras Frankonis and Liucija, and the ensemble "Riešutėliai".
- In Wolf's Foot Square On the same evening, the festive mood will be created by pupils of the kindergartens "Bangelė" and "Aušrelė", students of the Gerosios Vilties Progymnasium, and teams from the Vilnius Regional Center.
- Dew Festival in Pavilniai and Verkiai Regional Park from 19 p.m. will invite you to a special celebration at the Lizdeika altar. There will be cupping, herbal spells, fire rituals and dances. The program will feature performances by "Kūlgrinda", "Jorė", "Laukis", "Dolija", "Varange", "Raskila" and other folklore groups. There will be a herbal market, and scientists, herbalists and fortune tellers will interact.
Midsummer's Eve finale – June 23rd in Gerovės Park
On Sunday, June 23, the culmination of the Midsummer festival awaits In Welfare Park. Here, those gathered will be greeted by amateur art performances, greetings from the namesakes, and concerts. On stage – Nadila Adamchuk and the Ukrainian Center Ensemble, the groups “Rakija Klezmer Band”, “Folk Trio”, “Big Bam Jam”, “Sisters on Wire” and Dainotas Varnas. The Midsummer bonfire is also traditionally lit.
Vilnius welcomes Midsummer in various ways - from old traditions to modern sounds, inviting everyone to celebrate the longest day of the year together.
