On Monday evening, Vilnius residents gathered in Šventaragis valley to celebrate the spring equinox. At the vernal equinox, the dark and light periods of the year collide, and the length of night and day become equal, marking the beginning of astronomical spring. The Vilnius Ethnic Culture Center invited you to step out of the winter stagnation through the gates of spring to the "Lygė gardens" that have grown in Šventaragis valley.
Straw garden is one of the most impressive types of Lithuanian art. It is a model of a perfect universe in which harmony is created by the harmony of opposite poles. A classical garden consists of two pyramids with a common base, one of which points upwards (heaven, daus) and the other downwards (underground). In the middle of the garden, the whole human life between heaven and earth, between the beginning and the end - all the joys and sorrows, aspirations and worries.
Those who gathered in the Šventaragis valley had the opportunity to be inside such a garden. An interactive art installation created by Mantvydas Vladas Vilis, consisting of sculptures reminiscent of traditional gardens, was located at the site of the celebration.
The participants of the event could go inside the largest garden and experience the play of light and shadows, to the sound of musical compositions performed by the folk rock group "Atalyja" and the poetry of Vladas Braziūnas.
The large garden was surrounded by small gardens, in which the prophets of spring - birds - "perched" by Vilnius city schoolchildren. Patterns of candle flames illuminated the oasis of awakening nature.
"Lygės sodai" will decorate the Šventaragis valley until April 3.
