As they do every year when they thank Iceland for their courage in recognizing Lithuania's independence, the people of Vilnius plan to light a volcano in the city center.
On Thursday evening, a traditional one is held on Iceland Street in the capital event "Thank you, Iceland."
The organizers invite Vilnius residents and guests to come and experience Icelandic strength.
Iceland Street will be transformed into a meadow with a volcano, where there will be music, talks, discussions and dancing.
The participants of the celebration will be greeted by Icelandic ambassador Haraldas Apelunds, Icelandic artists Kristin Gunnlaugsdottir and Asthildur Jonsdottir, about Icelandic art and culture and Icelandic artists' inspiration from nature and volcanoes.
340 thousand Iceland, which has a large population, recognized Lithuania's independence in February 1991, despite Soviet sanctions. Most of the Western countries took such a step six months later, after the collapse of the putsch in Moscow.
