Did you know that February 14 not only the day of love is celebrated, but also the anniversary of the first power plant in the city of Vilnius? This year she turns 118 years old. On that occasion, Neakivaidinis Vilnius, together with the Museum of Energy and Technology, prepared a new route in the capital, which will be perfect for an alternative St. for Valentine's Day.
A city is a place where technical innovations first make their way and establish themselves. Vilnius is no exception: not only the latest trends in art and architectural styles, fresh scientific ideas, but also the latest technologies reached the capital often first in Lithuania. As the city developed, expanded and modernized, instead of wooden bridges, iron structures arose, "balana gadynya" was lit by electricity, the postman was replaced by a telephone, modest trees were overshadowed by majestic high-rise buildings. It is important to remember that the development of technology is accompanied by changes in everyday life, the city skyline, people's lifestyle and habits.
We invite you to take a walk along the route "Technology Innovation Stories", which introduces the most important and interesting objects marking the development of Vilnius technology - witnesses of constant societal change and modernization. Those traveling along this six-kilometer route will visit eleven objects and learn where the first light bulb was lit in Vilnius, what tests a candidate for membership in the first Lithuanian craftsman's workshop had to overcome, which Vilnius house was the first to receive central heating, and other interesting facts about the history of technical innovations in Vilnius.
We encourage you to walk the route safely, in compliance with quarantine restrictions - wearing a mask, one ar at a time only with immediate family members.
