"The music of the carillon, which was installed almost three years ago, was played on the occasions of religious, state, historical and city holidays. Last year, the first Vilnius carillon festival was held, which we estimate was attended by about five thousand fans of this music, Dominican brother Mindaugas Slapšinskas tells OP. - Of course, carillon traditions are still forming in Lithuania, but we have noticed that people's interest in this unique music is growing. In addition, both the city and the church are regularly visited by many tourists who are happy to stop when they hear unusual sounds. Therefore, from now on, every day at 13 p.m. and 19.15:XNUMX p.m., residents and guests of our city will be delighted by free fifteen-minute concerts, which will include church music, classics, works created especially for the carillon, and popular melodies."
We will remind you that in 2015 St. The tower of the Philip and Jacob Church houses the largest carillon in Central Europe, with as many as 61 bells. The smallest weighs 8 kilograms, the largest - almost a quarter of a ton. They were cast by the famous bell foundry "Royal Eijsbouts" in the city of Asten in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Vilnius carillon is also distinguished by the fact that it is not only the largest in Lithuania, but also the only one installed in a church.
It is already known that the second international Vilnius carillon festival will take place from July 11 to August 22.
