World Tourism Day is an opportunity to learn, hike and discover
"It doesn't matter if you've lived in Vilnius for many years or are just visiting - everyone is invited to become a tourist in the capital of Lithuania during the World Tourism Day weekend!" On this occasion, we will look at the 700-year-old Vilnius with new eyes and have fun in the eternally young Vilnius. Vilnius invites you to play, hike, discover, laugh and wonder, so that the next time you meet tourists in Vilnius, you will see why they want to come back again and again. In the events dedicated to Tourism Day, we will welcome not only Vilnius residents, but also guests from other cities and countries," Inga Romanovskienė, director of the Go Vilnius agency, invites you to explore Vilnius not only during the day, but also at night.
A magical night in Vilnius: on foot through 700 years
When have you wandered around a sleeping city with nothing but stars and lanterns? Bring your flashlights and go into the magical labyrinth of history - you won't even feel how romantic you will walk all 12 kilometers of the "700"-shaped track in the center of Vilnius.
Hikers are invited to come "illuminated" - carry flashlights, bulbs or garlands and illuminate the entire jubilee hiking route. The start of the night hike is on September 23, at 20 p.m White bridge, after the sun has already set. Darkness is both cozy and romantic and mysterious, so if you follow the contours of the number "700", you will otherwise see both ordinary and first-time objects. In addition, birthday snacks, drinks and entertainment will be provided by the organizers, so all you have to do is collect impressions in your memory box and enjoy the night hike, where even the little hikers are welcome. The route is developed in cooperation with Gjensidige. Participation in the hike is free, but you must register here: https://trailmasters.lt/trail-masters-vilnius-700-svieciantis-zygis-sostineje/
Intriguing details in the free tours "Untold stories of the Vilnius NATO summit"
For several days last July, we watched with interest an extraordinary event - the NATO summit in Vilnius: the official news caught our attention, but our curiosity was still not fully satisfied - after all, we wanted details about the behind-the-scenes of the meeting.
During the tours, together with the guides, you will travel through the historically important places of the NATO summit in the city center and learn interesting facts about the various challenges Lithuanians faced when planning the biggest event in the modern history of Lithuania: how the preparations went and how the logistical puzzles were solved.
Discover the heroes of Vilnius and be one of the 700 prize winners
Vilnius was created and is being created by talented Vilnius residents, so on the occasion of World Tourism Day it will be fun to discover not only the city's spaces, but also those who nurture and give meaning to them every day. During the engaging orientation game "Discover Vilnius Heroes", you will get to know the real heroes of Vilnius: these are the people without whom Vilnius would not be Vilnius and who cannot be found in any other city. However, searching for them will require you to turn your head well and move accordingly, but unexpected acquaintances, intriguing stories and even 700 prizes for the first to complete the tasks are waiting for you.
You can get to know Vilnius in less traditional ways - even through fairy tales. The guide, storyteller Vida Norkūnienė, who introduces herself to the children as Mrs. Vidonija, set herself a beautiful task: to collect fairy tales and place them in the city - so the listeners are waiting for 7 wonderful stories about Vilnius.
At the same time, it is worth noting that on the last Sunday of the month, September 24, you can visit many Vilnius museums for free. Classic and contemporary art, historical curiosities, fashion and design, video installations and rare exhibits - museums open their treasures and invite you to discover them.
The World Tourism Day is celebrated on September 27, so on that day we invite you to visit the Tourism Information Center, located on Pilies street, where visitors will have a pleasant surprise.
