October 3 marks the 560th anniversary of the reign of the King of Lithuania and Poland, who became the saint of the Catholic Church and patron of Lithuania, St. Kazimierz's birth.
On this occasion, on October 3-15, the Church Heritage Museum will be waiting for young and old at free lectures, excursions and exhibitions.
St. Kazimierz, the second son of the Grand Duke of Lithuania and King of Poland Kazimierz Jogailaitis and Elžbieta Habsburgaitė, was born in Krakow. He was brought up as the future king of Lithuania and Poland and was distinguished by the traits of a great ruler - wisdom, justice, courage, but also piety, avoiding luxury, caring for the poor.
He died of tuberculosis at the age of 25. Soon the king began to be called a saint, believers began to tell about the miracles that happened through his intercession. Today, many places in Vilnius remind St. Kazimierz and the townspeople's respect for him.
Piety of St. Kazimieris is inseparable from the international cultural ties that connected Lithuania with other Christian European states, and the heritage of the links has reached our days in the form of sacred works of art.
How can the personality of the holy king who lived five centuries ago be more relevant for today's people? The answer to this question will be sought by prof. Vytautas Ališauskas, who will give a lecture at the Church Heritage Museum on the evening of October 3rd.
