Already tomorrow, Friday evening, loud shouts will resound in Vilnius for the eighth time Ačiū to you, Iceland!, with which we thank Iceland for its historical courage and friendship to Lithuania. For those who have forgotten, we remind you - Iceland was the first country in 1991. February 11 recognized the Independence of the restored Lithuania. The date of the event, which has already become a tradition, was also not chosen by chance - on June 17, the country's residents will celebrate their national day.
As every year, the goal is not only to thank Iceland, but also to introduce Lithuanians and Vilnius guests to Icelandic culture, music, etc. After all, many people know where this small volcanic island is located, but few can tell more about its people and their traditions. So this Friday Iceland Street will once again be decorated with street flags and, of course, the already famous Icelandic natural grass meadow. This year there will be twice as many as last year.
"This year, we traditionally close the street several times and turn it into an oasis of green meadows and Icelandic culture, when we can feel different in our city than we are used to, and at the same time, in a meaningful and fun way, thank Iceland for such a priceless historical step," said Mantas Titas, creator of the Thank you, Iceland project. Urban.
The program starting at 18.00:XNUMX will allow you to feel a lot of Icelandic atmosphere. In conjunction with Kino Pavasar, the Icelandic documentary "All for the Show" about the life and backstage of the circus of the last century will be shown, and the soundtrack of the film was specially composed by members of the famous Icelandic band Sigur Ros. We will be able to listen to interesting Icelandic reports (as in a conference) both from the mouths of Icelanders and Lithuanians. We will choose the champion of the most Icelandic beard, we will have fun with Viking village enthusiasts, and Bjork and his own creations will be performed by the Lithuanian indie music group Abrokenleg.
"Although the Thank you Iceland project is my hobby and a fun way to spend my free time, but without the support of my partners, this event would be impossible. So I would like to thank all our sponsors, partners, the Vilnius City Municipality and all the street bars that support this idea. And the biggest thing is thanks to the people of Vilnius and the guests of the city, who make this celebration meaningful with their presence, - thanked Mantas Titas Urbonas.
Thanks to you, the Iceland 2019 event is already this Friday, June 14, on Iceland Street.
The event is free.
