While walking in the center of Vilnius, you probably heard the harmonious ringing of bells more than once. This is the Vilnius carillon, installed in St. in the Church of the Apostles Philip and James.
This is where the "Vilnius Carillon Festival" starts this Wednesday, inviting you to listen to this unique instrument more often.
"The carillon is one of the kings of instruments, because it is royal not only in its sound and grandeur, but also in its ambition as an instrument. It is a set of gigantic bells that has its own ringer, a control panel, that is, a keyboard, from which, by pressing a key or several, or a whole series of them, commands are given to a system that executes these commands with great precision, and the reed hammers strike the bells." - says composer Gintaras Sodeika.
You can listen to the carillon ringing in Lithuania in four cities: Beautiful, Klaipėda, Šakii and Vilnius.
A unique instrument consisting of 61 bells, St. installed in the Church of the Apostles Philip and James two years ago.
